Cooking with Aluminum Foil Linked to Alzheimer’s?

Cooking with Aluminum Foil Linked to Alzheimer’s?

Almost everyone has use aluminum foil at one point in their life whether it was used for cooking, in a project, in the kitchen or to treat ailments. Parts of aluminum are emitted into our food when we cook or grill with aluminum using high temperature. Is it true that cooking with aluminum foil linked to Alzheimer’s? I would avoid cooking at high temperature when using foil.

Aluminum is a neurotoxic heavy metal that been associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Could it be – cooking with aluminum foil linked to Alzheimer’s? Medical experts mentioned that aluminum can cause loss of memory, loss of balance, a decline in your mental health and can also affect you from controlling your body and coordination. Studies have proven that cooking with aluminum foil can affect many people bones because the aluminum replaces calcium by building up in the bone causing it to reduce the calcium level.

“High concentrations of aluminum have been detected in the brain tissue of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have examined the community of old people with Alzheimer’s and concluded that it is a modern disease that’s developed from altered living conditions associated with society’s industrialization. These conditions may include high levels of aluminum in daily life.” Source: HuffingtonPost

Aluminum has also been linked to pulmonary fibrosis, kidney disease, various respiratory problems (from inhaling aluminum particles), renal impairment and reduces the growth rate of human brain cells.

Many people think of aluminum foil when they hear the word “aluminum,” but aluminum can be found in cookware and utensils material around the world because aluminum is cheaper to mass produce and easier to clean then Copper.

Cooking with Aluminum Foil Linked to Alzheimer’s?

Cooking in pots, pan and other kitchen items made of aluminum is not as bad as cooking spicy or acidic food wrapped with foil that is cooked with a high temperature. Cookware (pots, pans, etc.) has been most likely oxidized which means the cookware has an inner layer that prevents the aluminum to leach/seep into our food.

Chemical engineering researcher, Dr. Essam Zubaidy at the American University of Sharjah concluded that up to 400mg of aluminum could be included in food that is cooked with aluminum. The higher heat or temperature we cook with means that more aluminum will be seeping into our food. Foils should not be used with vegetables (mainly tomatoes), citrus juice or spices.

According to the World Health Organization, we should use less than 60mg of aluminum daily.
Food Additives that contains aluminum compounds are:
E173, E520, E521, E523 E541, E545, E554, E555 E556 and E559.
Aluminum can also be found in corn, salt, yellow cheese, herbs, tea, antacids, antiperspirant, and spices.

Humans do not need aluminum because our body cannot process it correctly but we do need minerals and iron. Majority of the aluminum gets trapped in our body parts including our liver, kidneys, brain, thyroid, and lungs which can potentially damage our health.

Hmmm, what do you think about Cooking with Aluminum Foil Linked to Alzheimer’s?

Dangers of Aluminum

  1. Damages our central nervous system.
  2. Children exposed to aluminum (can be from drinking water with high levels of aluminum) has been linked to autism.
  3. Bone disease has been linked to kids taking medicines containing aluminum.
  4. Aluminum exposure in adults can result in neurological deficits similar to ALS–PDC  (a Guamanian variant) and Alzheimer’s.
  5. Can potentially damage your brain by producing toxic, oxidative stress in your brain. Our brain can store a lot of aluminum that can result in various neurological disorders including but not limited to MS, ADD, Guilliane-Barre’ syndrome, chronic fatigue syndromes, epilepsy, and Alzheimer ’s.
  6. Aluminum helps our body to become deficient in magnesium, calcium, and iron.
”Trace aluminum levels cross the blood-brain barrier and progressively accumulate in large pyramidal neurons of the hippocampus, cortex, and other brain regions vulnerable in Alzheimer’s disease. More aluminum enters the brain than leaves, resulting in a net increase in intraneuronal aluminum with advancing age. Aluminum is responsible for two main types of toxic damage in cells. As a pro-oxidant, aluminum causes oxidative damage both on its own and in synergy with iron. Aluminum also competes with, and substitutes for, essential metals-primarily Mg2+, iron and Ca2+ ions-in or on proteins and their co-factors.” Source: NCBI
  7. Weaken bones from aluminum seeping into our bone tissues which are believed to be the cause of osteoporosis. “Aluminum induces impairment of bone formation.” Source: NCBI

Three Ways to Avoid Aluminum

  1. Use/cook in aluminum free cookware.
  2. Read labels and buy hygiene products without aluminum hydroxide.
  3. Avoid processed foods; it is easier then you think – take baby step 🙂

Garlic, Green Tea, Burdock, Onions, Carrot Juice, Cilantro, Chlorella, Blue Green Algae, and Bentonite, Can Help Remove Metals Naturally From Your Body.

According to the World Health Organization, “Approximately 60, 25, 10, 3 and 1% of the aluminum body burden is in the bone, lung, muscle, liver, and brain, respectively.”

Everyone will have their own opinion on whether you should use aluminum after reading Cooking with Aluminum Foil Linked to Alzheimer’s?
I will use aluminum to cook for my family but in moderation and on low temperature.
