Removing your acrylic nails at the nail salon can be costly and time-consuming but is recommended by a lot of professionals. Personally, I wouldn’t say I like going to the nail salon to remove my fake acrylic nails because I prefer to remove acrylic nails at home pain-free. Some nail technicians can hurt your nails by not taking their time, so I listed the two best ways on how to remove acrylic nails painlessly with acetone at home below.

SUPPLIES NEEDED
100% pure acetone
A regular nail clipper or a nail clipper for acrylic nails
Nail Buffer or a nail file
* Cotton balls or cotton face/makeup pads
Aluminum foil – cut aluminum foil into pieces that can securely wrap around your fingers.
* Cuticle stick or orange stick
*
Vaseline, lotion, or cuticle oil

PROCESS

  1. Remove nail polish and design from the acrylic nail with nail polish remover or use a nail file to away the topcoat.
  2. Clip your acrylic nails down as short as you can. This process can be painful for some people.
  3. Pry up the edges of your acrylic nails so that acetone can penetrate the acrylic and glue.
  4. Apply Vaseline, lotion, or cuticle oil around the cuticle area and finger where acetone will touch but not your acrylic nails.
  5. Soak the cotton balls or pads in acetone.
  6. Put acetone-soaked cotton balls or pads on acrylic nails (completely covering acrylic nails) and wrap with foil wrap immediately.
  7. Leave foil wrap on fingers for about 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. DO ONE FINGER AT A TIME!!!
Gently remove one foil wrap and check to see if the acrylic nail comes off with it or slides off easily.
  9. IF acrylic nail does not come off easily, please put the aluminum foil back on your finger and wait an additional ten minutes or resoak the cotton ball and repeat the process with a shorter waiting time.

I have read a few places that acrylic nails treated with acetone will start to harden if you do not take the acrylic nail off as soon as possible, so I advise doing one nail at a time. You can dip all of your acrylic nails in the acetone simultaneously but try to keep as much of them in the bowl by taking off the acrylic from one nail.
